Research and Analysis
The Better Jobs, Better Futures team are continuously analysing local and national labour market information to inform the work we do with individuals and businesses. We utilise a broad evidence base to support our work and are actively engaged in contributing to further research in the area of employability and employment support.

The latest data shows:
- Swansea East has one of the highest unemployment rates in Wales at 8%.
- 75% of those classed as unemployed in Swansea have been so for less than 12 months.
- Wales has the highest rate of underemployment across the UK, with 11% of workers seeking additional hours.
- Women account for 73% of Swansea’s comparatively high part-time employment rate and account for just 30% of the self-employed workforce in Swansea.
This data supports the need for an active labour market approach to move more people into work, as well as increasing earnings and employment opportunities for those already in work.
